IG- REACH TRANSPARENCY
Product Design | UX | RESEARCH
Summary
We developed in-app resources comprising personalized insights and industry best practices to effectively communicate to Creators why their content may face demotion, impacting their content's reach. Our aim was to enhance Black Creator success on Instagram by offering customized and general advice to avoid quality demotions that hinder content reach.
PROBLEM
Black creators are currently underrepresented in higher-paid creator segments and experience lower revenue when monetizing on Instagram. Our objective was to improve economic outcomes for Black creators by addressing equity gaps in in-product visibility and engagement, expanding access to monetization opportunities, and promoting pay transparency.

Results
Key Findings:
Black creators tend to have limited reach compared to others.
Black creators often report a lack of attribution for their original content when other creators use their ideas.
There is a notable absence of pay transparency both on and off the platform.
HOW DO WE HELP CREATORS OF COLOR MAKE HIGHER QUALITY CONTENT THAT DOESN’T GET DEMOTED?
By offering in-app transparency to creators regarding factors that restrict their content's distribution, our goal is to motivate them to create content less likely to be demoted by our system, increasing the likelihood of it being recommended to unconnected accounts by our algorithms.
